Dicentra Formosa (Western Bleeding Heart)
Dicentra Formosa (Western Bleeding Heart)
An excellent groundcover for shady areas that will spread and form colonies over time. Blooms purple-red flowers from spring until early summer. Drought tolerant but may go dormant during extended periods of heat. We got ours as a named form and then promptly forgot which but it has an attractive blue-grey tinge to the foliage that we favor over the more commonly found mid-green foliage.
Requirements: Shade to partial shade.
Native Range: British Columbia to California.
Height: to 18 in. Spread: to 3 ft.
