Origanum majorana
Marjoram is a hardy perennial native to the Mediterranean region and is common in many international cuisines. Revered as a symbol of happiness in ancient Rome and Greece; grooms and brides were often adorned with garlands of marjoram to ensure marital bliss.
Requirements: Full sun or partial afternoon shade (and might look better in it).
Care: Trim or harvest regularly to promote the growth of new branches and result in a bushier plant. Marjoram will naturally die back in the winter and grow again in the spring.
Origanum majorana
(Hardy Sweet Marjoram)
Milder and sweeter than oregano and hardier than most sources would have you believe given sufficient drainage. Blooms white flowers in summer that attract pollinators.
Height: to 12 in. Spread: to 12 in.
Origanum vulgare 'Aureum'
(Curly Golden Marjoram)
Technically an oregano but we find the flavor to be more congruent with marjoram. Bright gold foliage that looks best with some afternoon shade.
Height: to 12 in. Spread: to 18 in.
Origanum vulgare 'Variegata'
(Variegated Marjoram)
Technically an oregano but we find the flavor to be more congruent with marjoram. Compact growth, variegated foliage. Performs well in containers.
Height: to 12 in. Spread: to 12 in.
