Fremontodendron 'Pacific Sunset'

Description: evergreen shrub; an introduction by the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, thought to be a hybrid of F. californicum and F. mexicanum. Vigorous, upright vase-shaped growth with fuzzy lobed foliage and magnificent bright yellow flowers from spring into summer. Flannelbushes thrive in dry summer soil; watering them during summer months (even once) could result in a premature death due to their low resistance to fungal pathogens that thrive in warm, wet soils.
