Grevillea 'Canberra Gem'

Description: evergreen shrub; dense, rounded growth with arching brances and green, needle-like foliage. Large flushes of rose-red flowers from late winter into summer and then sporadically throughout the year.

Height: to 4 ft. Spread: to 8 ft.

Position: full sun and well-draining soil

Uses: ornamental, to attract pollinators

Winter Hardiness: to 10 F and below

Care: no special care needed, Grevillea is part of the Proteaceae family and have specialized roots that absorb micro-nutrients from the soil. In general, fertilizer should be avoided; phosphorous is especially toxic to Grevillea.

Notes: 'Canberra Gem' is a hybrid of G. juniperina and G. rosmarinifolia introduced in the 1960's by P. Moore of Yarralumla Government Nursery near Canberra, Australia.
