Lavandula angustifolia 'De Lavande'

Description: evergreen shrub; a selection from a wild population in Southern France that was used by locals for essential oil production. Several different clones were originally brought to the U.S. but as far as we know this is the only one left in cultivation as it proved to be the best performer. Very fragrant, long-blooming, violet flower spikes on mid-length stems. Very cold hardy.

Corolla: bright violet

Calyx: dark violet with sage green at the base, very woolly

Bloom season: early summer

Best Uses: landscaping, culinary, essential oil, bouquets, crafts


Position: full sun and well-draining soil


Winter Hardiness: to 0 F and below


Drought: adapted to 3 months of summer drought
