Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'

Common name(s): English lavender

Description: evergreen shrub; originally brought to England from France in the 1920s by Major Lawrence Johnston of Hidcote Manor and originally propagated by Thomas Carlile of the Loddon Nurseries. The true 'Hidote' has held an award of merit from the Royal Horticultural Society since 1950. For decades, it has been widely (and erroneously) sold as a seed cultivar which is explicitly excluded from the awards of garden merit. We propagate and offer the true 'Hidcote' clone that can be traced back to the original propagation by Loddon Nurseries. Compact, silver foliage and strongly fragrant, dense, dark violet flower spikes on mid-length stems. Prized for use in hedges and dried flowers. Relatively, slow-growing and long-lived.
