Description: evergreen shrublet; a narrow-leafed garden sage native to Spain and especially adapted to long periods of drought. Very low-growing and compact compared to many other popular garden sages. Pale violet flowers in summer.

Position: full sun and well-draining soil


Uses: medicine, culinary- savory dishes, stuffing, herbal tea, liqueurs and bitters


Winter Hardiness: to 0 F and below


Drought: adapted to 3+ months of summer drought

Notes: formerly its own species (S. lavandulifolia) but currently classified as a subspecies of S. officinalis
