Genus: Grevillea
Common Names: spider flowers
A genus of around 360 species of evergreen shrubs in the family Proteaceae. As with other members of this family, they have specialized proteoid roots and are extremely sensitive to fertilized growing mediums, especially those high in phosphorous. In cultivation, they are popular as ornamentals and many selections perform well in temperate climates despite their largely subtropical origins.
Distribution: Australia, Central Malesia, New Guinea and New Caledonia.

Grevillea 'The Precious'
Description: evergreen shrub; a seedling of 'Poorinda Leanne' introduced by Ian Barclay of The Desert Northwest nursery in Sequim, WA. Dense, sprawling growth with needle-like green foliage and bright yellow flowers on and off throughout the year with peak blooms in late winter. The contrast provided by darker foliage and bright flowers than its parent 'Leanne' provide extra appeal on dark, cloudy days.

Grevillea australis
Description: evergreen shrub; dense, rounded growth with narrow olive-green foliage. Fragrant white flowers from late winter into spring perfume the air with the aroma of honey. Very cold hardy.

Grevillea juniperina 'Molonglo'
Description: evergreen shrub; low, spreading growth with green, needle-like foliage. Orange-yellow flowers bloom sporadically throughout the year but are most abundant in late spring.

Grevillea lanigera 'Coastal Gem'
Description: evergreen shrub; low, carpeting growth with narrow, bright green foliage. Pinkish white flowers bloom in profusion from late winter into spring and then sporadically throughout the rest of the year.

Grevillea victoriae
Description: evergreen shrub; one of the hardier members of the genus typically found at high elevation in SE Australia. Vigorous, rounded growth with elliptical, gray-green foliage and orange-red flower clusters from late winter into early spring.

Grevillea victoriae 'Murray Valley Queen'
Description: evergreen shrub; vigorous, rounded growth with broad, olive-green foliage. Orange-red flower clusters bloom for months on end from winter through spring and then sporadically throughout the rest of the year. An excellent source of nectar for wildlife in winter.
